Overview
Born on 18 July 1989, Bhumi Padnekar is an Indian actress who works in Hindi movies. She rose to fame with her debut film ‘Dum Laga ke Haisha,’ opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. Bhumi gained around 25 kg of weight according to the demand of her character in the movie ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’. She spend her 6 years, working as an assistant director at Yash Raj Movies. Bhumi was asked to give demo to other actors for the movie ‘Dum Laga ke Haisha’, though Bhumi had no idea that what actually it was, indeed, an audition for her.
In 2018, she was featured by Forbes India in their 30 under 30 list. According to a report, Bhumi has watched Karmaal R Khan’s film ‘Deshdrohi’, almost 100 times. Bhumi was just 19 years old when her father died. Bhumi’s mother worked as an anti- tobacco activist after the death of her father from oral cancer.
Early Life & Family
Bhumi was born in Mumbai to a Maharashtrian father, Satish Padnekar and Haryanvi mom, Sumitra Pednekar. She has a sister Samiksha, she is Lawyer by profession. Bhumi wanted to be an actor since her childhood. Bhumi has completed her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir school, Juhu, Mumbai.
Her parents took out a study loan for her to study acting at Whistling Woods International, but she was expelled because of poor attendance. Later she completed her graduation form the University of Mumbai, she studied Bachelor of Commerce (B.com) from there. Before she stepped into the acting world, she worked as an Assistant Casting Director for Yash Raj Movies.
Relationship
Despite being emerging name in Bollywood, Bhumi’s love life has strangely kept out of headlines. While asking about her relationship she said that she is dating her work only and i have to tell my mother to find me a boy because i don’t have the time for it. I don’t miss being in a relationship right now. But she admitted that she has been in relationships in the past.
However, there was a rumour that Bhumi Padnekar was dating actor Jackky Bhagnani. Such rumours started spreading when Bhumi was spotted in the car that does not belong to her. It belongs to Jackky Bhagnani, this incident was enough for the media to link Bhumi with Jackky. Though, in one of Bhumi’s interview she clarify this, Bhumi said, i have known Jackky from before i became an actress, we know each other for 10 years. I can’t ruin my friendship over short lived gossip, It’s rare beautiful friendship. By this interview, one thing is very clear that currently Bhumi is not in any relationship.

Bhumi debut in film industry in 2015 and by the end of 2019 she worked in 7 Bollywood movies, her performance in all these movies helped her in gaining so much popularity as an actress. Bhumi won the Film fare Award for Best Female Debut, for her performance in ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015). In 2017, Bhumi’s two movies ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ released, both movies received good response from critics and audience. In 2018, she worked in Netflix web series ‘Lust Stories’, which also loved by the audience. In 2019, Bhumi’s total 4 movies ‘Bala’, ‘Sand Ki Aankh’, ‘Sonchiriya’, and ‘Pati Patni Aur woh’ released.

Controversies/Affairs
Bhumi is not quite famous for any controversies, but there are some situation when she was trolled on social media. Recently Bhumi was trolled for her dialogue in the trailer of movie ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’, Bhumi says, ‘She likes sex a lot’. After hearing this dialogue, some social media users started spreading hate against this movie. Then finally, film director Mudassar Aziz came himself for speaking on this topic and he said, if a man says that i like sex, then there is no problem, but if a woman is saying that, then people oppose it.
Even later, Bhumi apologies for the controversial dialogue in her interview. However, film is released last year and it’s a super hit according to box office collection. Last year Bhumi was also trolled for her role in ‘Bala’ movie, social media users had slammed the makers for not casting a real dark skinned actress rather than making Bhumi look a few shades darker. In response of such trolls she defended herself by saying that an actor should be allowed to play any part
