Overview

Born on 11 October 1942, Amitabh Bachchan is a Bollywood actor who, made his debut in ‘Saat Hindustani’ film in 1969. Initially, he was named ‘Inquilab’, but after the suggestion of fellow poet of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, it was changed to ‘Amitabh’. Amitabh’s real surname is ‘srivastava’, but his father abandoned this surname to protest against the cast system in India. By the early 1970s, Amitabh was very famous name in the film industry, people used to call him as the ‘angry young man”because of immense popularity he gained on that time.

From the 1970 s through the early 1980 s, Amitabh appeared in more than 100 films. In the 1980 s, Amitabh held a seat in the Indian Parliament. He is also known for a noble work as he devotes his time in charitable causes too. In 2003 he was appointed as a goodwill ambassador for the United National Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

On 26 July 1982, he suffered a near fatal injury while shooting for a movie ‘Coolie’ at the university campus in Bangalore. He was declared dead for 11 minutes by the doctors till they plunged adrenaline injection into his chest saving his life. He has lost 75 % of his liver due to late diagnosis of the disease, which he contracted through a blood transfusion after the Coolie accident. In 1984, he took a break form acting and entered politics to support his friend Rajiv Gandhi. Later once again he came back to acting industry and after that come back he never stop again, still he is performing in films.

Early Life & Family

Amitabh Bachchan, was born in Allahabad, India. Amitabh’s father was the famous Hindi poet Dr. Harivansh Rai. His mother, Teji Bachchan. He has one younger bother named Ajitabh. Amitabh married to movie actress Jaya Bhaduri in 1973. The couple have two children, a daughter and a son. Their son name is Abhishek Bachchan, is aslo an actor and is married to actress Aishwarya Rai and this couple have one daughter, named Aaradhya Bachchan. Amitabh and Jaya have one daughter, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, is married to Nikhil Nanda.

When he was small, he dreamed to become an engineer and wanted to join the Indian Air Force. During his college days, he was the part of drama society and he used to act in plays. Amitabh completed his schooling from Jinana Pramodhini, Boys High School, Allahabad. Later he went Sherwood College, Nainital, India. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree from kirori Mal College, New Delhi, India. Before stepping into the acting world, he made his film debut as a voice narrator in the National winning film ‘Bhuvan shome’ (1969).

Relationships

Before marrying Jaya, Amitabh have dated many actress like Rekha, Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman. One of the most talked affair of Amitabh is with Rekha, both were seen together on the big screen for the first time in ‘Do  Anjaane’ (1976), when Amitabh was a married man. According to some reports, both were dating each other smoothly until an incident happened. During the shoots of ‘Ganga Ki Saugandh’ (1978), Amitabh lost his temper on a co-actor when saw, he is misbehaving with Rekha.

This reaction was enough for everyone to speculate about their relationship, it was the headline topic in every newspaper on that time. However, both denied this news about their affair, but no one was believing on them. Even after the sensational entry of Rekha in Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s wedding, wearing sindoor and mangalsutra, people started making story about Rekha and Amitabh secret marriage.

Despite all such incident, Amitabh never admitted his love publicly. On the other hand, Rekha were seen admitting her love for Amitabh in many media interviews. Some reports says, Rekha was desperately wants to marry Amitabh, but Amitabh was already married on that time and he was not interested in second marriage.

Amitabh Bachchan, has worked in around 200 movies. It is not Justice to name few of his films as popular, almost all of his movies gives us the reason, why we should appraise him for his acting skills. He got his nickname ‘Angry young man’ from the film ‘Zanjeer’ (1973). Before the success of Zanjeer, he was a part of 12 consecutive flop films.

Amitabh, earned many awards for the performance in film like ‘Baghban (2003), Khakee (2004), and Paa (2009). In 2000, he also started hosting the Indian version of the television game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, Which is still running in T.V with the name Kaun Banega Crore Pati. He also worked in one of Bigg Boss season as a host.

Controversies

There are so many controversies, Amitabh Bachchan fall in but few are highly talked one such as the controversy with Shatrughan Sinha. Shatrughan have expressed his dislike for Amitabh many times. In his autobiography, Shatrughan opened about how Amitabh considered him as a threat and mistreated him on the sets. Shatrughan alleged that he dropped out and returned the signing amount of so many movies because of Amitabh’s presence on it.

There is one more allegation on Amitabh, but this time it is by Parveen Babi. Praveen Babi once said Amitabh Bachchan is a super international gangster. He is after my life, his goons kidnapped me. According to reports, she was madly in love with Amitabh and she was not mentally fit on that time. On January 20, 2005 she died at her residence. After her death, Amitabh Bachchan, accepted that she was a great friend and that he would often frequent at her place.
