Kristen Stewart is an American actress and a director, who is the first american actress to have been conferred with the prestigious Cesar Award. She was also one of the highest paid actresses in the world in the year 2010, and 2012.
Stewart began her career as a child actress, and eventually she entered into the industry as an adult, gaining wide popularity with her character, Bella Swan in the romantic series, Twilight, which collectively went on to garner $3.3 billion worldwide.
Early Life & Family
Kristen was born on 9th of April 1990, in Los Angeles, California, US, to John Stewart, a stage manager and a television producer, and Jules Mann Stewart, a script supervisor, and a director. Her father was an american while her mother, an Australian. Both of them worked in the entertainment industry. Stewart has an older brother, Cameron, and two adopted elder brothers, Dana and Taylor.
Growing up, Kristen did her schooling from local schools until seventh grade, and as she became more and more involved in acting, and the industry, she continued her education by distance until her high school. As she had been raised by a family who always worked behind the camera, she never considered to work in front of it, and aspired to be a screenwriter or a director one day.
With the help of her parents, she used to perform small roles, in theaters, and televisions. Her first film was a bit role in Disney Channel’s The Thirteenth Year (1999). It was in the year 2002, that she landed the role of Jodie Foster’s daughter, in the film Panic Room, and she got recognition by many.
Relationship
In an appearance on the popular show, Saturday Night Live, in the year 2017, Stewart described herself as ”So Gay”. Also in an interview with The Guardian, Stewart described herself as bisexual. Stewart has been in many relationships in her career.
In the early 2009, she was dating her ‘Speak’ co star, Michael Angarano. In the mid 2009, she was in a relationship with her Twilight co star Robert Pattinson. While in the year 2012, she was reportedly seen together with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. From the period of 2013 to 2016, Stewart has been in a relationship with visual effects producer Alicia Cargile, French Singer Soko, musician Annie Clark.
In the year 2016, she was in a brief relationship with New Zealand model Stella Maxwell until the couple broke up in the late 2018.
However, as of now, she has been in a relationship with screenwriter Dylan Meyer since August of 2019.
Professional Career: Popular Movies/TV Series (If any)
Stewart was seen by an agent in an elementary school’s Christmas play. It was then that she began auditioning, and in the year 1999, she landed her first role in Disney’s The Thirteenth Year. Next she was seen in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, where she played the ‘ring toss girl’. It was in the year 2002, that she was offered the role of a tomboy, diabetic daughter of a divorced mother (played by Jodie Foster), in the film, The Panic Room. She was nominated for Young Artist Award for her performance. She started getting recognized at places.
In the year 2014, Stewart starred in her first film in a lead role in children’s action comedy ‘Catch that Kid’. The same year, she also played the role of Lila in Undertow (2004). Kristen had gained fame, and was counted among the popular child artists. She played the role of Lisa Bud wing in the fantasy adventure film ‘Zathura: A space adventure’.
The film was appreciated by the critics, however, the role of Stewart could not garner much attention.
She was cast in a small role in one of the classics by Sean Penn, ‘Into the Wild’ in the year 2007. She played the role of Tracy, a teenager who falls for the young adventurer Christopher MC Candles. Her performance received mixed reviews. However, the films received Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture.
Summit Entertainment, in the year 2007, announced that Kristen Stewart would be playing the role of Isabella ‘Bella’ Swan in the upcoming film Twilight, based on the novel of the same name. For her performance as Bella, Kristen was appreciated by the mass, with some critics describing her as ”the ideal casting choice”. Twilight series was a huge franchise. With fans from all over the world, Kristen’s fame reached to the heights. Twilight collectively garnered a total of $3.3 billion worldwide. She was counted among the top earning celebrities of Hollywood. She received the award, BAFTA Rising Star Award in the year 2010.
However, her later sequels of the Twilight series were received with bad reviews by the critics. She concluded the series with Breaking Dawn- Part 2. Despite its bad reviews, the film managed to be a box office success grossing nearly $830 million worldwide. According to Forbes, Stewart was the highest earning actress in 2012, with a total of $34.5 million.
She was then seen in Camp X-Ray in 2014, which was largely lauded by the critics, with X Brooks of The Guardian saying, “It’s a role that reminds us what a fine performer she was in the likes of Into the Wild and Adventure land.” From then, Stewart was seen in a lot of independent films, with her coming with her own films, as a director. She directed her first film ‘Water’.
In 2019, she returned back to mainstream cinema with the film ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and the science fiction film ‘Underwater’ in the year 2020. Though both of the films were reviewed as bad by the critics, Stewart’s performance received mixed reviews, and appreciated.
Controversies/Affairs/Why in News?
One of the major controversy of Kristen’s career was her affair with her Snow White and The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders, while she was in a relationship with Robert Pattinson. Though Kristen later apologized for cheating on Robert, the couple reconciled later in 2012. However, they broke up in 2013.
She was also in talks in the media when she declared herself as bisexual. As she said, ”It’s not confusing if you’re bisexual. For me, it’s the opposite”.
